I’m taking part in the Buffalo Niagara Dragon Boat Festival this June as part of my personal fitness journey and more importantly, in memory of a dear friend I lost to pancreatic cancer last year.
Dragon boat racing is more than a sport. Rooted in ancient Chinese tradition, each boat is designed as a powerful dragon, brought to life through the “Awakening the Dragon” ceremony. With a touch of red paint to its eyes, the dragon’s spirit—its qi—is ignited, symbolizing strength, energy, and unity.
That spirit is what drives our team. Dragon boating is a demanding sport made up of 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steersperson, all moving as one. It requires endurance, coordination, and heart, qualities that reflect the fight so many face against cancer.
On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Buffalo RiverWorks, I’ll be paddling not just for the challenge, but for a cause close to my heart. This event brings together community, tradition, and purpose, all set against Buffalo’s beautiful waterfront.
I’m fundraising in honor of my friend and to support efforts against cancer. Every donation helps fuel research, support patients and families, and move us closer to better outcomes.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
I don't sweat I SPARKle!!!
